Cinco de Mayo, Spanish for the fifth of May, is celebrated all over the world. In Arizona they hold Chihuahua races, crowning the winning dogs as part of the celebrations. Avocado sales have reached 81 million on this date in the United States alone!
It is the celebration of an unexpected victory. It was a Mexican Victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862. The Mexican army won the battle despite being smaller and ill-equipped. Cinco de Mayo is not the Mexican Independence Day, that occurred in September, fifty years prior to the battle of Puebla.
For Cinco de Mayo, Delmanor Northtown residents celebrated with a very authentic Mariachi band, plus tasty margaritas and favorite Mexican foods prepared by the talented Northtown culinary team.
Last year Mexico was the 2nd most popular destination for Canadian travelers. Cinco de Mayo and the warmth of Mexico was brought to Delmanor Northtown for this wonderful and unforgettable celebration! Viva Mexico!
