Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious and affordable ready to eat or frozen meals, to 181 communities across Ontario. Meals are delivered to the doors of seniors, people that are ill or recovering, or people in need of assistance with their daily dietary planning and preparation.
The premise started by local church groups that saw a need to help feed seniors and others living in their neighbourhood. Now government funding covers part of the cost and the difference is made up by donations and client fees, which MOW tries to keep as low as possible.
Depending on the program, the meals are delivered by drivers that are often volunteers. The volunteers are screened, trained and usually live in the communities they serve. Delmanor Northtown was able to treat the hard workers and volunteers of MOW to an afternoon of regal service, with fresh flowers and an elegant high tea. The Culinary team at Delmanor prepared a meal comprised of sweets, cakes, scones, clotted cream, jams, fruits, delightful finger sandwiches and wide assortment of lovely teas.
To offer full services and a delightful meal to this deserving group that serve meals to so many others, was one kind way that Delmanor Northtown thought they could give back to those in their North York community.
