History of Music Lecture – Istvan Anhalt
Thursday, May 2nd at 2:30 pm

Many Canadians observe Yom HaShoah, which is also known as the Holocaust Remembrance Day. On May 2nd we commemorate the lives and heroism of the Jewish people.  Istvan Anhalt was a Holocaust survivor, composer and friend to Dr. Robin Elliott. Dr. Elliot is his biographer and in this lecture will include a sample of his music. Istvan studied music in Paris after the war and immigrated to Canada, teaching at McGill and Queens University. 2019 marks the 100th anniversary of Istvan’s birth in Hungary. 

 The Fabulous Invictones
Wednesday May 15th at 7:30 pm

The Fabulous Invictones is an all-male, senior choir that sings songs from 40’s to the 70’s. This choir has been around for over 60 years. They started as many choirs do, as a church group back in 1958. This delightful group of gentlemen incorporate everything from high-energy numbers to gentle ballads in their very entertaining show!

LivingWell  Lecture Series
Thursday, May 23rd, 2019 from 2:30 to 3:30 pm

We are pleased to welcome Joy Fielding, internationally-acclaimed author, who will read from her new book, All the Wrong Places. Joy’s novels are known for suspense building story lines and unexpected plot twists.

All the Wrong Places tells the story of four women who turn to online dating for companionship, only to find themselves in the crosshairs of a tech-savvy killer using a computer app to target his victims.

Books will be available for purchase and signed by the author after the presentation

Hello Summer Celebration

Hello summer! The end of June brings the first day of summer. With wonderful outdoor terraces and the warmer weather we will take the festivities outdoors.  Our DJ is here to take your request for your favorite summertime songs. Bright colored decorations, party shirts, refreshments and fun will all be a party of our summer celebration!

Healthy Living for Brain Health

Judy Chu is a registered Kinesiologist, adult educator, fitness & health specialist that is dedicated to helping us live healthy. With many years working at Baycrest Health Sciences, Judy understands our fears and desire to age gracefully.  Judy shares specific exercises and practices that we can take away and apply to optimize our Brain Health.  In her workshops, she discusses evidence based research that shows preventive measures that we can start using now.

The Best Decades of Fashion
Tuesday July 23rd at 2:30 pm

What is your favorite decade when it comes to fashion? In both men’s and women’s fashion there have been some classic designs and some fashion faux pas you would likely rather not have return to our stores and runways! Norma Hillyer-Shephard is a Mobile Millinery Museum Director. If you appreciate clothing you will surely enjoy seeing some of her historic garments. Norma will highlight the fabulous fashions from the 1920’s to 1950’s.
