Embracing Diversity Lecture

Raheel is an award winning journalist, author, and public speaker, activist for human rights, gender equality and dignity in diversity.  She is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal for her service to Canada. As an interfaith discussion leader, Raheel feels at times there is a need to speak out in opposition to extremism that is taking place in the world today.  Come and hear her story of distinction and strength.

Hands On Exotic Animals
Wednesday July 10th at 2:30 pm

When was the last time you were face to face with a Canadian Lynx, Striped Skunk or Giant Tortoise? “Hands On Exotics” is an animal shelter based out of Toronto which specializes in the care of rare animals. They rescue animals in need of a home and help raise awareness for conservation issues and responsible pet ownership. Join us in our Willowdale Lounge to meet and interact with exotic birds, reptiles, invertebrates and mammals!  It will be an afternoon of feathers, fur and fun.

 

Estate Houses and Famous Streets Presentation
Tuesday July 24th at 2:30 pm

Join us for an afternoon of exploring estate houses and famous streets in the Toronto area. Many of us have heard that Yonge Street is the longest street in the world, but we pass by countless streets, subway stations and houses in neighborhoods every day without having heard their stories.  Richard Fiennes-Clinton, with Muddy York Walking Tours, will take us on a “talking tour” sharing history, profound events and curious facts about these houses and streets.

Thursday August 23rd at 2:30 pm

Learn about exciting updates in technology. Chris Bint from Tech Coaches will answer questions about the latest and greatest technologic advances. Have you wondered how can Facebook be helpful, should you be using Skype for long distance communication, and do we have to “Tweet”? He will cover the difference between public Wi-Fi and private, plus pay verses free anti-virus. Chris will showcase virtual assistant devises that effect the way we handle our daily chores, and speak about the technological advances such as curved televisions and bendable telephones!
