Taking part in the “Milk Bag Mats” community wide project has left Delmanor Glen Abbey residents feeling warm, purposeful and encouraged. Residents found themselves eagerly learning the technique of constructing the mats. Their hard work along with encouragement and support from one another during the process has resulted in fantastic results and even greater friendships!
The Milk Bag Mats are made from milk bags which are cut into strips and either woven or crocheted together. They are distributed to third world countries and used as beds as they are found to be a durable and washable alternative to sleeping on the cold and damp ground. It takes approximately 600 milk bags to make one adult mat.
Delmanor Glen Abbey residents felt a sense of accomplishment helping the Oakville Community work on this incredible initiative. Residents will be continuing to work towards a completed mat over the course of the next few months and everyone is eager to see the finished product!
