Everyone loves fresh smoothies at any time of year. For Active Aging Week the Delmanor Elgin Mills Residents were treated to delicious and nutritious smoothies created by Chef Keith. For Active Aging Week Delmanor Elgin Mills held programs that focused on physical fitness, mental health and nutrition.
Chef Keith prepared a smoothie demonstration that included one flavour made from chi seeds, frozen berries and almond milk. Another delectable smoothie consisted of frozen yogourt, mango, pineapple, honey and almond milk. They were both absolutely delicious!
Nutrition is such an important component of healthy and active aging. Maintaining a diet dense in nutrients is very important for older adults because the quality of our diet has a huge effect on physical condition, cognitive well-being, bone health, eye health, vascular function and the immune system.
Residents were thrilled with the smoothie demonstration and wonderful creations made by Chef Keith. When we treat our bodies to nutritious food we feel better. When all of these excellent nutrients are presented in a treat that delights our palates, it is the perfect example of healthy eating for active aging.
