Delmanor Wynford recognized Remembrance Day with a ceremony that included Residents, team members, and our eleven Resident Veterans that were honoured on this important day.
The Wynford team leaders filmed the ceremony in advance so that our Veterans and Residents were able to enjoy the singing of O’Canada and the opening remarks from our General Manger Scott Schumacher, the photos (both past and present) of our Residents Veterans, The Last Post and the two minutes of silence and singing of Amazing Grace.
It was a heartfelt ceremony that touched Residents whether they watched it live or in the comfort of their own suites through our in-house television channel. The most touching part of the ceremony came when Resident Veteran Dr. Granville Nickerson recited ‘In Flander’s Fields’ by John McCrae, followed by our Veterans having their photos taken to commemorate the event.
The Wynford Culinary team prepared a special Remembrance Day lunch for our eleven Resident Veterans. They sat socially distanced in our Wynford Centre and shared stories and reminisced about their service to Canada.
The Remembrance Day menu included roasted cauliflower bisque with sweet corn and a chive oil drizzle, nordic blend greens with mandarin segments, grilled artichokes, pumpkin seeds and honeyed goat cheese, home-made lobster and potato salad with roasted tomatoes, dill aioli and tarragon oil or smoked bacon-wrapped chicken cordon bleu with roasted potato medallions, and a blistered tomato relish. This incredible meal was topped off with a New York style cheesecake with a berry compote and caramel drizzle!
Everyone at Delmanor Wynford takes great pride in honouring our Veterans each year and all of the men and women who serve our great country.
