Nicknamed the sunshine vitamin, most of us know that our bodies create Vitamin D when exposed to the sun. Did you know that November is Vitamin D Awareness Month? For Canadians and those who live in northern latitudes, this is not a coincidence. Beginning in November and lasting until May, the suns rays are not strong enough to generate vitamin D naturally, thus the need for a Vitamin D supplement.
Last week Delmanor Northtown residents ‘Zoomed’ into a webinar hosted by our very own LivingWell Coach, Sue Merritt. Participants learned all about this important vitamin, and the many ways it benefits our bodies. Not only is it critical for maintaining bone density as we age, it can also positively impact our overall immune system, muscle strength, heart and brain function, and mental health. Recent studies also suggest that optimal levels of Vitamin D can help lower the risk of certain cancers, and even help in the fight against colds, flus, and viral infections such as Covid-19.
As a bonus, residents received a free sample of D Drops Vitamin D supplements, which were graciously donated by the Woodbridge-based #Ddrops Company. Thank you to everyone that helped make this virtual presentation a D-lightful success!
